It took me months to get my act together, I needed to learn some new skills myself in order to be able to create and market the product. I found I kept coming up with excuses or finding something “more important” to do. More and more people started asking me to assist them in learning this new skill. It was then I realized that getting my act together to teach the social media really was my “important task”. Ask yourself “what have I done during the most difficult times?”. When things get really tough what do you do to turn things around take yourself to the next level?

1) Take control of your mind, feed and strengthen your mind every day. You are the one who must take control of your mind, don’t let your thoughts be like a leaf blowing around in the wind. You must control the inner voices. The best way to do this is to feed your mind every day, just like your body you must feed in order in order to survive and thrive.

Combat with reading (biographies), listening to CD’s, watching motivational movies, incantations and affirmations.

2) Feed & strengthen your body When was the last time you pushed yourself with exercise? When you push thru physically your body changes so does your mind. Test your body with food, one day eat all the foods you know are bad for you then take note of how you feel the next day. Follow up with a day of eating only foods that you know are good for you, again take note of how you feel the next day. I became aware of this myself by going to fast food places, a few hours after eating the burger and fries all I wanted to do was take a nap!

3) Get a role model – Find someone who inspires you. With the information available on the internet today it is a fairly easy task to find someone who inspires you. All you have to do is “Google” your question. Find someone who will show you the way, someone who has already done what you want to do. We all need contrast sometimes, contrast can show us what we want or what we don’t want.

4) Get a proven plan and take massive action, the power of massive action is something that you really want to take advantage of because as you progress towards the achievement of your goals it equals happiness. Massive action equals success and we all know how good we feel when we are successful. If your plan of action doesn’t work change your approach. So long as you continue to take massive action you will find success.

5) Feed and strengthen your spirit What are you grateful for? Do something for someone else who is worse off than you are. This makes you feel like you make a difference and that you can thrive no matter what!

I had a story that followed me for years, “Carla, you are so clumsy, we can’t let you do that it is too fragile!”  I heard that story many times while I was growing up and because I heard it over and over and over and over I too came to believe it.  Once I started building my home based MLM business in earnest I started to take my own self development more seriously.  That was when I realized that I was allowing that story from my past to be an excuse in my future.  I was making decisions based on that old story.  Self development has taught me:

The only behaviour I am responsible for is my own!

A strategy that I use to identify if I am allowing my old stories to hold my future hostage are:

Comparison:  When you find that you are comparing yourself to others, STOP.  Everyone’s experiences are different.  The way you look at a situation will be different from everyone else.  We have all heard the stories about the “eye witnesses” to an accident can all tell a very different story.  The same principle works on you.  When you compare yourself and find yourself wanting you can end up in all by yourself in your own little “pity poor me party”.  The excuse then becomes your story and unless you realize what you are doing that story will become how you live that part of your life for years to come.

For me whenever that old “clumsy” thought creeps back in; I remind myself  “I am graceful!”

We listed the property for rent in Craigslist and arranged for potential tenants to drop by while the current tenant was still there.  Much to our shock the potential tenant called on Monday and said she quite liked the place however before she would move in we would have to paint the entire place, replace the carpet and appliances.  We immediately drove out to the property.  Unfortunately the potential tenant was correct!

The carpet cleaning company came to take a look, I was hopeful because they had told me that in 5 years there hand only been 2 occasions where they could not clean the carpet.  Unfortunately that number is now 3.  The tenant had created some new habits and that was letting her children run around with freezes everywhere in the house.  The dye in the freezes when left on the carpet is impossible to remove.

Now the tenant has skipped, leaving us with $1,000’s in repair costs.  What habits has she developed recently that puts her in the position of having to skip.  I say recently because on our last check 4 months ago the property was fine.

Some of our habits were developed and created when we were young, some are new.  What kind of habits are you creating?  Being responsible for your own behavior is critical to your success in any home based MLM business, even real estate investing.  We now know that continual checks on our property are necessary even when the tenant has demonstrated good habits in the past, things can change!

Take a look at your habits, what do you know that you need to change in order to be successful in your home based MLM business?  Remember how you do anything, is how you do everything.

BELIEF IN YOURSELF – without this belief or faith that you can actually achieve your desired results you will run into roadblocks that take you out on every turn. If, in the beginning your belief in yourself is not that strong, borrow from the beliefs of others.  Find the biographies of people you admire, read what they did, I am sure within the book you will be able to find behaviors you can copy.  A number of the quotes from Eleanor Roosevelt inspired me, I printed them out and posted them where I could see them every day.

WINNING ATTITUDE – do you see the glass as half full or half empty?  With the attitude that you can do it, you can.  Set your mind toward your goal and keep your focus on the goal line.  Do everything you can to get yourself across that goal line.  Now there will be days when this is really easy and others where it is not so easy.  Learn from the not so easy and just keep going.  When you are happy with your “why”, your goal, your MLM business it will show in your attitude.

Building an MLM home business requires change from the inside out

Change is all around us, have you noticed how the speed of change is accelerating?  The inter-net alone has provided so much information so easily to all of us.  Today if I am looking for information my first reaction is to “Google” it and for the most part I do find an answer.

As you build your home based business you want it to grow, correct?  However growth is not possible without change.  Change is inevitable – the growth part is optional.  In order for you business to grow you need to grow too.

We all go through change, but the bigger question is will you grow through the change because change does not always equal growth.  When you look around today you will see many people, perhaps even your friends and family, who go through the changes happening around them with blinders on.  Not taking advantage of all that can be learned from change.

The more reasons you have to change the easier the change will be.  Here are 3 mind-sets you can adopt now to assist you in the process of change.

1. change what needs to be changed, not what is easy
2. let go of yesterday so you can go to tomorrow
3. activate belief

We all carry baggage, the older we get the more we accumulate and the heavier it gets.  With all that accumulated baggage you are making change harder on yourself than it needs to be.  If you are not a person who embraces change here is a project for you.  Clean out that junk drawer, pick a small one to start, but make that change, recognize whether you are a saver or thrower.

If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude. Maya Angelou

Adopt the attitude of changing from the inside out.  Questions you can ask to yourself that will start you off on the right foot are:

• What steps do I have to take to make the changes and get the benefit?
• Who’s it going to affect and how will they react?
• How am I going to manage all of this so that it happens and I succeed?
• How’s it going to be different when I’ve made the change?
• Why am I doing this – how’s it going to benefit me?

Remember the more reasons you have to change the more likely you will be successful.  You want your home business to be a great success, write these questions out, post them where you can see them daily and you will be well on your way to success in your home business.

Can you be this focused on your home business

This happens in your business too.  Many things will happen, just like the itch, that can take you off focus.  Constant effort is required to keep your focus on building your home business.  You must keep practising, bring your focus back to what you want and what you need to do right now.

Here are 3 simple steps:

1) observe witness yourself,
2) breathe
3) snap and shift

As you build your home business you will have original ideas, everyone does.  Unfortunately not everyone takes action on the idea.  Four strategies that will assist you to focus on your original ideas and make them a reality:

1) start
2) what worked
3) what didn’t work
4) improve make better?

No matter where you begin your creations and original ideas are always in process.  As you build more ideas will come and your creation will grow.  Just like my dream of sponsoring children, it started with just one, from there we went to 10, then 100, now our dream is to sponsor 1,000 children with Plan Canada.

Creating is re-creating; in everything you do you are always making minor corrections.  Just like the rocket ship heading to the moon, course correction is always in play.  Correction is very natural, it is so sad that so many people have the belief they need to be perfect the first time.  Because that is ridiculous!

Just keep it simple and don’t dramatize it to death because eventually you will get to where you want to go.  Provided of course you never quit, you focus on your goal and do whatever it takes to make it happen.

Changing on the outside is not the solution, however changing on the inside will enable you to see more of the perfection in yourself and in others.  Three habits you can adopt right now are:

1) be happy now

2) chose what you want to do next

3) start working towards it
Put things into perspective, ask yourself “in 5 years from now how will I feel about this?”  You can use that perspective now and skip all the part where you feel bad.  Earlier this year my dog Veddar died.  At first I had a terrible time because I missed her so very much, I was having my own little pity party.  Then I remembered hearing about this perspective on a CD!  Once I switched my thoughts from “poor me” to what a good dog Veddar had been I was able to skip a large part of “feeling bad”.  Don’t get me wrong I still do have the feelings come up but I am able to see them from the 5 year perspective which has been very healing.

One of the fundamental laws in psychology is; you get more of what you focus on.  One of the simple ways to change your focus is through the questions you ask yourself.  A good one to ask yourself when things are “going off the rail” is:

“How can I turn this into something good?”When you are stuck in victim mode, that is what you focus on, therefore you will get more.  For every outcome that you want there is a way of thinking and acting that will get it for you.  Your job is to find out what it is that you want and then be flexible on how to make it happen.

People believe they are no good at creating things only because they are not aware of what they are focusing on.  What you have been focusing on is what you have right now.  The first step is to recognize your own thinking, most of us just let the thoughts pass through our head like a train going past us on the track.  When you stop some of those thoughts and take a look you will recognize “victim” thoughts,  we all have them.  Many people believe world dangerous so they look for danger, that goes back to the fundamental law in psychology, you get more of what you focus on.  Keep thinking about danger and it will keep being reinforced in your life.

Changing from the inside out is the key because it is what you do with the thoughts that determine your results.

The brain is neutral, when you ask positive questions the brain has no other job but to come up with answers to your question(s). Get clear about what you want and then using the power of repetition to make it happen.  We make kids do it to learn new tasks and ideas, why do we stop as adults?  Repetition is very powerful!

Here are three strategies used by high achievers that you can implement immediately.

High achievers plan long using;

1) methods
2) resources
3) focus

In order to plan you must have a method. Once you know what your goal is you can accomplish it by planning long. High achievers find a method to accomplish the task. You can find your method by doing your research. In my case in order to develop my home business I found someone who has already done what I want to do. Then I adopted his methods to accomplish my dream. I looked at many different methods prior to making the commitment. You too can do this by checking out others who have done what you want to do via books, CD’s, DVD’s or perhaps even in person.

Next finding the resources can be a very simple process, if like me you have a coach they will be able to direct you for the resources you need in order to accomplish your dream. You can search the internet, go to libraries, ask your successful friends and family. Read those books, listen to the CD’s and watch the DVD’s and then take action.

Think of using a magnifying glass on a hot day to start a fire. That is FOCUS, that is what is required to be a high achiever in your business There are so many things that take us off focus today, we are a microwave society, everything in small chunks! Start by focusing on a single task for 15 minutes per day. I personally changed my schedule so that I could write for 15 minutes first thing every morning. I know that is when I am at my writing best, therefore when I add the focus I can get one article written.

Once you become clear with the goals you dream of accomplishing; you will recognize where you are wasting time. We are all wasting time somewhere! This is what takes us off focus, all those time wasting activities

As yourself what if “it” (the negative belief) wasn’t true – what would I do?

It’s not how many doors are opened to you that counts, it’s how many you’re brave enough to walk through.

As I am sure you are aware, 2008 was not the best year for the economy. In the United States 1.9 million jobs were lost and unemployment climbed to 6.7%. The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) annual survey predicts the UK economy will shed at least 600,000 jobs in 2009.

Imagine The Feeling of Financial Freedom

Hodgson of the Conference board of Canada said more Canadians say they are financially worse off today than six months ago and expect to be even worse off six months from now. From all of these reports you can see that the current market situation is affecting many countries around the world.

I firmly believe that we need to stop relying on big business to provide for our financial future and depend more upon ourselves. Big business is about profits and the bottom line; people are on the wrong side of the balance sheet. We are considered to be liabilities rather than the assets that we really are.

When you commute to your “slave-camp job” each day, take a look at the faces of the people around you. Do they look happy and excited about going to work? Are people smiling and laughing? Most likely not! In too many cases people are so scared to go to work they are having heart attacks. I have read in many articles that one of the busiest times for emergency wards is Monday morning. Is this your future? Would you love to be able to quit your day job and build a business from home? Many of us are so caught in the rat-race that we are not aware of the many possibilities that exist other than the old “9 – 5, Monday to Friday”.

There are seven actions you can take to be able to Quit Your Day Job:

1) Invest in preparation – There are many classes you can attend (both in person and/or on-line) and books to read. Get out there and do some research. What would you do with your life if you didn’t have to go to work? Create a back-up plan just in case you are the next person to receive that dreaded pink slip.

2) Focus – once you know what your back-up plan is being focused on it is critical. So many times the small everyday tasks can take us right off course. Then one day you will wake up and ask yourself “where did the time go?” Surround yourself with things that remind you of your back-up plan: notes, pictures, books, CD’s, anything that works for you. Personally I have my back-up plans written out on flip chart paper and strategically placed around our house.

3) Intensity – once you have your path set you will need to “crank it up”. There are so many negative influences out there right now; you can easily be taken off-course. You must become intense about your own future, because if you don’t, who will?

4) Knowing you have the right to own your own future

5) You must own the right equipment – One of my most beneficial action steps was to hire a coach; I chose John DiLemme. He has a time-tested process for success that I am able to deliver to my entire team. We all know that the best way to succeed in any task is to obtain mentorship and/or guidance from those who have done what we want to do. Whether you follow someone from afar or pay for one-on-one personal coaching is a choice that only you can make.

6) Maintenance – you need to be constantly looking at what you are doing on a daily basis. Are your activities bringing you closer to your goals or farther away? Set time aside each day to review what you have done and set your tasks and activities for the following day. This is a sure way of ensuring that your activities will allow you to achieve the life of your dreams.

7) Persistence – life is about the journey. You would not quit in the first year of your University Degree program because you did not have your degree yet. You know you have to persevere for the full four years in order to obtain that degree. Do you give your dreams and financial future the same persistence? Too many people are expecting riches to fall in their laps. Don’t be one of those people.
